The main statutory tasks of the Research Centre for Cultivar Testing:
- keeping of national list of varieties ( NLI ),
- keeping the register of varieties protected by Plant Breeders' Rights ( PBR ),
- acceptance of notifications regarding the plant reproductive material of organic heterogeneous material as well as holding the record of notified organic heterogeneous material
- granting of authorizations to place on the market of seed belonging to varieties accepted for the official testing intended for tests and trials purposes,
- preparation of national guidelines for distinctness, uniformity and stability (DUS tests) testing based on the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) protocols and on the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) guidelines,
- development of methodological instruction for the value for cultivation and use assessment (VCU assessment),
- carrying out of DUS tests as well as VCU assessment for the purpose of variety listing and/or granting of the plant breeders' rights,
- co-ordination and performance of post-registration variety testing and variety recommendation into practice, in co-operation with Voivodeship Self-governments and Agricultural Chambers,
- carrying out of VCU assessment for varieties of vegetable and fruit plants, for descriptive lists purposes, after their entering into the NLI,
- carrying out of post control tests of seed material,
- publication of the Gazette for Plant Breeders' Rights and National List (Diariusz),
- publication of the Polish National List of Agricultural, Vegetable and Fruit Plants Varieties,
- publication of variety descriptive lists and results of post-registration testing,
- publication of lists of varieties recommended for cultivation on the territory of the voivodeship, in consultation with Voivodeship Self-governments and Agricultural Chambers,
- co-operation with variety listing authorities in the EU Member States and with the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO),
- co-operation with the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) in the field of DUS tests and implementation of UPOV Convention on the Polish territory,
- notification to the European Commission and UE member states of information on national listing of varieties,
- co-operation with the State Plant Health and Seed Inspection (PIORiN),
- co-operation with organizations and institutions in the field of plant breeding and seed production,
- performing of other tasks arising from the Polish Seed Act, the Law on the Legal Protection of Plant Varieties, the Law on organic farming and organic production and the Law on The Research Center for Cultivar Testing.
