The national list is kept for varieties of cultivated plant species, except for varieties used for ornamental purposes.
The Polish National List (NLI) is an official document containing the agricultural, vegetable and fruit plant varieties whose seed/nursery material is eligible for production and marketing in Poland, as well as, in addition in case of agricultural and vegetable plant varieties, on the European Union territory after their admission to the Common Catalogue.
Currently, varieties of 179 cultivated plant species are covered by national listing, including:
- 93 agricultural plant species,
- 58 vegetable plant species,
- 28 fruit plants
as well as varieties of cultivated plant species traditionally grown in Poland, having different utilization types as well as being of importance for landscape shaping and sustainable agriculture, called traditional varieties.
Moreover, conservation varieties of agricultural and vegetable plants as well as amateur varieties (with no intrinsic value for commercial crop production) of vegetable plants are also admitted to the NLI.

NECESSARY CRITERIA TO BE MET FOR A VARIETY ADDITION TO THE NLI
A variety enters the NLI - at the request of the applicant - if:
- it is distinct, uniform and stable
- it has a satisfactory value for cultivation and use; in case of agricultural plant species and Industrial Chicory,
except for:
- varieties of grasses not intended for the production of fodder plants (amenity varieties)
- varieties intended exclusively for export to the third countries
- the hybrid varieties components
- traditional varieties
- conservation varieties
- it is maintained and a maintainer possesses its seed material in the quantity sufficient to carry out the examinations
- it is designated by a suitable
- it fulfils administration requirements, including payment of fees
The variety applicant means the person who files an application for a variety addition to the NLI, a variety maintainer or other person, whom may be a natural person, a legal person or an organizational unit without legal personality having the domicile or seat within the territory of Poland or other EU Member States.
